At its annual meeting on May 13, 2025, the RTOERO Board of Directors approved a name change for the organization: effective January 1, 2026, RTOERO will become Entente Education Canada. The new name reflects the organization’s deep education roots and growing national presence, while affirming its commitment to trust, connection and healthy aging. Members can expect the same programs, services and supports—delivered with the same care and community spirit that have always been at the organization’s heart.
“Our new name speaks to who we are today and who we aspire to be,” says John Cappelletti, Chair of RTOERO’s Board of Directors. “We’ve evolved beyond our original scope as a retirement organization for Ontario teachers. Today, we are a national community of education sector workers and retirees working together to support well-being and advocate for a better aging experience for all.”
The name change follows a multi-year process that included extensive consultations with members, partners and staff. While the name is changing, the organization’s brand identity—including its colours, graphics and overall visual style—will remain the same. “Formerly RTOERO” will appear alongside the new name during a transition period to ensure continuity and familiarity.
“Entente is a name that reflects the spirit of our organization—an agreement rooted in understanding, shared values and collective purpose,” says Jim Grieve, CEO of RTOERO. “It captures how we engage with one another and our many partners as we work toward a healthy, active future for older adults in Canada.”
The organization’s strategic direction remains unchanged. Entente Education Canada will continue to offer exceptional group insurance benefits, member perks, research and advocacy efforts, and local district programs across Canada—empowering older adults and those who support them.
“This is not a departure from our past—it’s an affirmation of who we’ve become,” adds Grieve. “Retired teachers will always be at the core of our story—they created our organization. With this change, we’re opening the door wider and inviting more people to join us in building a better future—together.”
At the same meeting, the board approved its new strategic plan, which will guide the organization until 2030 and focuses on three broad goals:
RTOERO is a bilingual trusted voice on healthy, active living in the retirement journey for the broader education community. With 86,000+ members in 51 districts across Canada, we are the largest national provider of non-profit group health benefits for education retirees. We welcome members who work in or are retired from the early years, schools and school boards, post-secondary and any other capacity in education. We believe in a better future, together!
