Changing the stats: RTOERO’s letter to federal candidates

RTOERO is taking action this federal election, sending letters to major party leaders and candidates through its Vibrant Voices campaign. Read the letter and see the priorities we’re championing.

Dear Candidate,

As the federal election unfolds, we recognize the dedication and hard work you and your team are bringing to the campaign. At RTOERO, we are a trusted voice on seniors’ issues, representing more than 86,000 members across 51 districts in Canada. Our members, who have worked in diverse roles across the education sector, are deeply committed to advocating for policies that support healthy aging, retirement security, the overall well-being of aging adults, and environmental protection.

We are reaching out to encourage you, as a candidate, to consider the pressing needs of Canada’s growing aging population. RTOERO’s work goes beyond support services, our advocacy aims to shape a future where all older adults can thrive. We’re focused on three key priorities:

  • Establish a national seniors’ strategy that addresses income security, social isolation, caregiver support, aging at home, and the rights of older adults through a coordinated, partnership-based approach.
  • Expand access to appropriate health care, including enhanced geriatric training for health professionals, better support for managing complex health needs, and initiatives to prevent elder abuse.
  • Champion environmental stewardship through national standards that reduce waste, sustainable responsible resource use, and the protection of our air, land, and water.

Additionally, we have joined with six other senior-focused organizations to call on all political parties to commit to appointing a dedicated Minister for Seniors. As a candidate, your support for this critical leadership role can help ensure seniors’ needs are prioritized. We invite you to read our open letter to learn more about the importance of this call to action.

As you continue your campaign, we encourage you to consider how these priorities can enhance the quality of life for Canada’s aging population. We would appreciate a response outlining how you plan to address these key issues, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss them with you further. You’re invited to send your reply to elections@rtoero.ca, and for additional information, please visit: https://rtoero.ca/vibrant-voices/federal/.

Regardless of the election outcome, RTOERO remains committed to being a trusted resource on policies and programs that reflect the needs of seniors. Our members are engaged voters who care deeply about these issues, and we look forward to continuing the conversation, through this election and beyond April 28, to drive meaningful progress.

Wishing you all the best on the campaign trail.

Warm regards,
